We started our last day at La Posata Milagro where my brother-in-law recommended. Not only did we have great breakfast outside (70 degrees) but we ordered meatloaf sandwiches for a picnic later.
Once we entered the park, we took a side road to Balanced Rock trail. The 7-mile gravel road was primitive and we wondered if the rental car would make it. After a slow drive, we found the parking area.
Also called the Grapevine Hills Trail, the path wanders through the Chihuahuan Desert on flat land for about 3/4- mile. Then last 1/4-mile is where the hike gets really fun. The trail climbs up large rocks and boulders. A few times, I lost the trail and made it more difficult. However, it is all worth it when you finally get to the balanced rock.
Surrounding the Balanced Rock were large boulders and people were sitting all around them. We took some time hanging out and doing a few yoga poses.
I was amazed that this area seemed so different than the Chisos Mountain area from the previous day. It was more reminiscient of Bryce Canyon.
We almost hated to leave the area but knew we had to head over soon to the eastern side of the park to reach Bosquillas Canyon and the Hot Springs.
