The Grand Canyon should be on every family’s bucket list. And when you find yourself out there, you might as well take advantage of seeing other nearby national parks and monuments. We planned a 6-night trip over spring break to hit the highlights of Arizona and New Mexico, including 2 national parks, 2 national monuments and a day of snow skiing. Day 1
- Fly into Phoenix
Day 2 – Sedona
- Hike Devil’s Bridge – Sedona, AZ (120 miles)
- Afternoon Jeep Tour – Sedona, AZ
- Drive 114 miles to Grand Canyon NP (South Rim) for sunset, staying at Kachina Lodge
Day 3 – Grand Canyon
- Sunrise and Hiking – Grand Canyon NP, AZ
- Rim Road
- Grand Canyon East Rim
- Overnight in Flagstaff (90 miles away)
Day 4 – Petrified Forest
- Walnut Canyon National Monument – Flagstaff, AZ
- Drive and hike through Petrified Forest National Park, AZ (109 miles) including the Painted Desert
- Overnight in Santa Fe, NM (280 miles)
Day 5 – Taos
- High Road to Taos, NM (78 miles)
- Snow skiing at Taos Ski Valley
- Low Road back to Santa Fe, NM
Day 6 – Bandelier and Santa Fe
- Bandelier National Monument, Los Alamos, NM
- Sightseeing in Santa Fe, NM
- Overnight in Albuquerque, NM (58 miles) for early flight home.
