Savoy Auto Museum – Cartersville, GA

Just 45 miles northwest of Atlanta, the Savoy Auto Museum in Cartersville gives visitors an appreciation of auto history through the years. Opened in late 2021, Savoy joins sister museums, the Tellus Science Museum, Booth Western Art Museum, and Bartow History Museum, in the area perfect for a quick day trip. 

Named after the abandoned 1954 Plymouth Savoy found on the property during construction, the museum boasts over 100 autos and multiple rotating exhibits. Visitors can see the old Savoy outside the sleek 65,000-square-foot white building splashed with pops of red.

Jimmy Carter Presidential Museum – Atlanta, GA

“I’m Jimmy Carter and I’m running for president,” was a slogan featured during the 1976 presidential campaign. Most people responded with “Jimmy who?” Despite not having a nationally-known name, the Georgia native gained popularity with voters and became the 39th President of the United States.

Although I’d seen it many years ago, I figured I should take my Georgia-raised children to visit the Carter Presidential Museum at least once. After all, he’s the only US President from our state. However, the pandemic changed all of that as presidential libraries and museums remained shuttered longer than most other attractions. Recently, the opportunity arose to visit with Thing 1.

747 Experience – Delta Flight Museum Atlanta

A few years ago, we visited the Delta Flight Museum down at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. It did not disappoint and I’m happy to report the museum has grown despite the pandemic.

The museum consists of two hangars

The 747 Experience

One of the newer exhibits is the 747 Experience. Featuring Ship 6301, the first Boeing 747-400 ever built resides permanently in the parking lot across from the museum’s hangar. Delta employees greeted us inside the plane as if we were taking a flight. They encouraged us to ask questions as we embarked on the self-guided tour.
