Quarantine Quest: Lunchbox Museum – Columbus, GA

Metal school lunchboxes. Remember those? Unfortunately, our children missed out as we now have insulated lunch sacks and coolers. To educate them, we ventured to the Lunchbox Museum in Columbus, GA, just 120 miles southwest of Atlanta.

Located inside River Market Antiques, only a small sign indicated we were in the right place. After paying the $5 admission fee for adults (students are free), the man behind the counter ushered us around furniture, vintage clocks, china pieces and old magazines to the other side of the store. He pulled back a curtain where rows and rows of metal lunchboxes greeted us.

Quarantine Quest – St. Simon’s Island, GA

We were itching to get to a beach as things reopened from the pandemic. And St. Simon’s Island on the coast of Georgia provided the perfect place. With less than 24 hours to plan, we had a great weekend trip just five hours southeast of  Atlanta.

Near Savannah, many barrier islands dot Georgia’s coast. Nicknamed the Golden Isles, these barrier islands include Cumberland Island, Sea Island and Sapelo Island. St. Simon’s Island is one of the larger islands. At just 12 miles long and three miles wide, the small community is easy to navigate.

Quarantine Quest – Cloudland Canyon State Park, GA

Since the Georgia State Parks are open and our state is lifting shelter-in-place restrictions, we chose to hike at Cloudland Canyon State Park. Located 120 miles northwest from Atlanta, it’s almost in Tennessee near Chattanooga.
