Christmas at Tate House – Tate, Ga

Tate is a tiny community of less than 2,000 people in northwest Georgia. However, it boasts the title of Marble Capital of the US.

What do the Lincoln Memorial, New York Stock Exchange, Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the capitols of Kentucky, Arkansas, and Minnesota have in common? The buildings consist of Georgia marble mined by the Georgia Marble Company, founded by Sam Tate in 1884.

Oldest House Museum – St. Augustine, FL

We were back in St. Augustine getting Thing 1 moved into her dorm for her second year at Flagler College. Since move-in was a much simpler process this year, we had the entire afternoon to do whatever we wanted. We decided to tour The Oldest House Museum and St. Augustine Distillery.

Rocky Mountain National Park – Estes Park, Colorado 2022

We had blown through North and South Dakota in five days, but we still had two days left before our flight out of Denver. Looking at a map, Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) in Estes Park, Colorado called our name. The decision was two-fold. It was close to Denver and we had always planned to return to RMNP after visiting the park for only a few hours back in 2016.

After an afternoon tour of Jewel Cave National Monument in South Dakota, we arrived late in the evening at Estes Park, the gateway town of RMNP. Although we knew snow flurries were predicted (even in late May), we woke up to a winter wonderland. Over five inches of snow covered everything in sight!
