Mimms Museum of Technology & Art – Roswell, GA

A few months ago, I wrote a post for Mommy Poppins on Kid-Friendly Science Museums in Atlanta. For my research, we visited the Mimms Museum of Technology & Art in Roswell, one of the closest suburbs to Atlanta. The timing was perfect because Thing 1 was home for college spring break and loves technology.

Mimms is located in a former CompUSA (remember those?). Originally called the Computer Museum of America, the exhibits come from the personal collection of Lonnie Mimms. An Atlanta native and electrical engineering graduate from Georgia Tech, Mimms has been collecting computers and technology gadgets for over 40 years.

Deepdene Park – Atlanta, GA

People often associate landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted with Central Park in New York City, the US Capitol grounds in Washington, D.C., and the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. However, Olmsted also created the Olmsted Linear Park, a series of six adjacent parks in Atlanta’s Druid Hills neighborhood. We finally had the chance to explore the 22-acre Deepdene Park, the largest of the six linear parks. Over 100 years old, the park remains a tranquil setting for enjoying the outdoors.

Cochran Shoals Unit at the Chattahoochee River – Atlanta

The Chattahoochee River is Atlanta’s unofficial playground. Run by the National Park Service, the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area operates several units. The Cochran Shoals Unit at Interstate North lies just off of the top end of I-285 (Atlanta’s beltway affectionately called the Perimeter). Although close to a major interstate, the area allows visitors to feel miles away from civilization.
