Disney Wonder – Rainforest Pass at Senses Spa

Because of a busy spring, I wasn’t geared up for our 7-day cruise to Alaska on the Disney Wonder. I desperately needed time alone and found myself constantly irritated by kids bumping into me or the overly-cheery staff asking me “How are you today?” The last place I wanted to be was on a cruise full of Disney characters, music and movies.

However, on our previous Disney Dream cruise, I discovered the Rainforest Room at the spa. Fortunately, the Disney Wonder had a similar, but much smaller, Rainforest Room inside Senses Spa on Deck 9 near the Quiet Cove Pool area.

I bought a joint pass for the week with my spouse because the pricing was better (just an additional $50) for two people. After taking a tour of the facilities and locker room, the attendant gave me a choice of 5 different scented body scrubs. I chose the lavender herbal salt scrub and began my journey to relaxation.

The Mild Steam Room

With my pass, I entered the Rainforest Room. I hung up my robe on a hook and entered the mild steam room. Since it is coed, you must wear bathing suits at all times. After letting the steam open my pores, I applied the salt scrub to my legs and arms and sat on a towel for a few more minutes. I then took the water spigot near the sink and washed it all off. My skin felt so smooth afterwards!

On the other side of the Rainforest Room is a set of three showers: Tropical Thunder, Rain Shower and Cold Fog. Each of these is timed to last between 1-2 minutes.

Sensory Showers

The temperatures and pressure of the water flow varied among the showers. Some people go from cold to hot or just do one of the showers. There are no rules, just whatever relaxes you the most.

Heated tile loungers in the Rainforest Room

After showering, I grabbed a fresh towel, a cup of the lemon-infused water and plopped down on the heated tile lounger with my book. On the Disney Dream, the loungers faced a large window overlooking the ocean. Here, the 5 loungers faced the inner spa area and water feature.

When I got too hot, I ducked back into one of the showers – usually the Cold Fog shower which felt great after the steam room.

The Cold Fog felt more like a mist than a shower

Opening the door to the Aromatic Steam Room, a burst of humidity hit me. I absolutely loved this much hotter steam room. Although I couldn’t stay in there more than 5 minutes at a time, I alternated between it and the Cold Fog shower most often.

I made it a point to visit the Rainforest Room at least once a day and spent about an hour per visit. Although it wasn’t as large as the Rainforest Room on the Disney Dream, this was my “happy place” for the duration of the cruise.

A few tips

Purchase your pass when you first arrive on the boat as they sell out. You can go to the Rainforest Room at any time the spa is open – no need for an appointment. The area is only for adults, but co-ed. The Disney Wonder didn’t offer a hot tub in the spa, but rather it was outside next to the adult-only pool.

The locker rooms are adjacent to the Rainforest Room and provide lockers, showers, hairdryers and spa shoes (similar to plastic flip flops). A sitting room with a dry sauna is also located in the locker room.
